A.    ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS IN ONE OR TWO WORDS-

 

1.     What did Rama give free with every item?

Ans- Rama had a separate aluminium pot in which he kept chutney, he gave free chutney with every item as it went gratis with almost every food.

2.     Whose arm searched for the perfect duck’s egg?

Ans- Rama had many customers probing the different items, and he knew exactly who had picked up what food items. Among all at a particular time he could see the wrestler’s arms searching for the perfect duck’s egg.

3.     Where did Rama Sleep?

Ans- Rama slept on a pyol.

4.     How much did the four chapattis cost?

Ans-  Rama had the most affordable food items. Four chapattis cost only an anna  at his stall.  His chapattis were so thin that one can lift fifty of them on a little finger.

5.     Where did Rama work as a waiter?

Ans- After his business  collapsed , Rama  worked in a Restaurant named Kohinoor as a waiter.

 

c. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS :

 

1. At what time did Rama wake up every day?

Ans- Rama woke up every day when the cock in the next house crowed, sometimes it crowed at 3 am in the morning. According to the sound of the cock he wakes up.

2. What did Rama sell?

Ans- Rama sells different snacks and beverage. The items included heaps of bondas which seemed puffed and big and melts in the mouth, Dosais which were white, round and limp which looked like muslin, Chapattis which were so thin that one can lift fifty of them on the  little finger,  coffee  and free chutney which went gratis with all the food items.

3. Who were Rama’s customers?

Ans- Rama had almost all the people that works their miscellaneous jobs  in the market. He also captures the attentions of the people who pass by his stalls. His food items looked so good that even dyspeptic could not pass by without throwing a look at the food items. Some of the common visiting customers are the Jutka drivers, shoes polishing boys, Wrestlers, Blind beggar, grass selling women, a silly fellow with a limp, and the cinema crowds.

4. Why did the riot break out?

Ans- According to a young shop boy, someone was stabbed near the sales Tax office when he was distributing notices about some votes  which eventually lead to disagreement between two groups, leading to stronger violence. Everyone seemed to be angry with everyone else and in an hour it turned into a battlefield.

1.     Why did Rama’s customers like him?

Ans- Rama had his food stall at a perfect spot and it was set up with such delicious food that even a dyspeptic could not pass by without throwing a look at it. He  had almost whole market people as his customer.

His customer like him because he offered food with affordable prices such as coffee for six pies, four chapattis for an Anna.  His customers were also comfortable as they could pick up, examine and then accept the stuff. They could choose their items after proper scrutiny. Though Rama had no understanding of hygiene and sold near an open gutter without even covering his food, his customers never suffered from any king of disease nor did they agitated. His stall was always filled with fresh food and free chutney which went gratis with almost every item.

2.     Briefly describe Rama’s attitude towards the boot polish boys.

Ans- Rama had a soft corner in his heart for the waifs. He had a sympathetic and compassionate attitude towards the boot polish boys, he often thought about their difficult lives and wished the customers would be more generous in paying them good so that the boys could have dosasi and chapattis.

            He was kind and dealt leniently with the boys and also measured out their half glass of coffee correct to the fraction of an inch and let them cling on to the glass as long as they liked. He did not give them free foods but always felt presume to see their hungry faces and hollow eyes and raged cloths. This always made him unhappy to see their eagerness when they came to him for food but he could do nothing.

3.     What did Rama’s wife do upon his arrival at night?

Ans- Rams’s wife on arrival of Rama at night opens the door and snatches all his encumbrances, pulls out the cloth bag and immediately sits to count the cash. She ruminates on the exquisite mystery how 5 rupees invested in the morning brought them another 5 rupees. Later she puts back the money into the cloth bag for further investment.
