On the Face of it:

1.       What is it that draws Derry towards Mr Lamb inspite of himself?

Ans- Derry always remains aloof from people. But the day when he meets Mr Lamb, a change came over him. Derry is slowly drawn towards Mr Lamb. Derry realizes later on that running away from the people does not change things. He realises that in spite of this burn face he is no way less than other people around him. Mr Lamb’s wards make him feel confident to face the world.

2.       In which section of the play does Mr Lamb display signs of loneliness and disappointment? What are the ways in which Mr Lamb tries to overcome these feelings?

Ans- When we meet Mr Lamb, we observe that he has positive views towards life. His approach to life is positive in everyway. One of his legs is made of tin, even then he never steps back to accept his disability.

              Mr Lamb tries to overcome his loneliness by keeping the gates of his garden open for all. People come and go. He finds everything around his garden and behind the walls of his garden. Thus it is clear that such a person can never feel lonely and disappointed. There is no place for such his heart.

3.       Who is Mr Lamb? How does Derry get into his garden?

Ans- Mr Lamb is an old man who possesses a garden. He grows crab apples there and makes jelly from them.

              Derry gets into his garden by climbing up the garden to overcome his loneliness as he has a wrong idea that nobody remains in the garden.

4.       Why aren’t there any curtains at the windows of Mr Lamb’s house?

Ans- Mr Lamb’s views towards the world is totally different. He is not found of curtains. He likes the light and the darkness and when the windows are open, he loves to listen to the sound of the winds. He does not want to shut things out or in.

5.       Why does Derry go back to Mr Lamb in the end?

Ans- Derry goes back to Mr Lamb in the end because he likes his company. After exchanging words with Mr lamb Derry gets inspired to look at the world differently. He gets a way to come out of his inferiority complex. Derry realizes that Mr Lamb has not taken any exception to his burnt face and this realization change his view towards Mr Lamb and he begins to enjoy his company. He wants to see and find out things differently like Mr Lamb. He goes back to Mr Lamb only to look at things and listen to his and face the world with a positive attitude.
