                                              Voice of the Rain:

1.        1.There are two voice in the poem. Who do they belong to? Which lines indicate this?

Ans- The two voice in the poem are: the poet and the rain.

              The line which indicate this are: “ And who art thou? Said I to the soft falling shower” and “I am the Poem of Earth”. These two lines indicate that there are two voices in the poem. It can be considered as a conversation between the poet and the rain.

 

2.       2. What does the phrase “strange to tell” mean?

Ans-  The phrase “strange to tell” refers to the rain drops unexpected respond to the poet’s question who art thou.

3.       3. There is parallel drawn between rain and music. Which words indicate this? Explain the similarity between the two.

Ans- The words suggest a connection between rain and music: ‘Poem of Earth’, eternal I rise impalpable out of land and the unfathomable sea,’ and so on, ‘For singing returns duly with affection.’

              Both come from a source, rise and find fulfilment, travel around whether or not they are cared for and eventually return to the point of origin.

4.       4. How is the cyclic movement of rain brought out in the poem? Compare it with what you have learned in science.

Ans- Rainwater rises untouched from the land and deep sea and plants in the form of water vapour, gathers in sky as clouds and finally descends to earth to wash the dry droughts, atomies, dust layers and to give life to the latent seeds that is buried. Then it returns to original location.

 According to science textbook, due to the extreme hot heat from the sun water vapour from the sea, plants and land goes up to the sky and takes the form of clouds and after condensing, and fall like rain. And again the waters dry up and again the same cycle follows.
