1.       Where was it most likely that the two girls would find work after school?

Ans- The two girl Sophie and Jansie, are most likely to work in biscuit factory after school.

2.       2. What were the options that Sophie was dreaming of? Why does Jansie discourage her from having such dreams?

Ans- Sophie always remained in an imagination world, and she was dreaming herself to be a boutique owner, an actress or a fashion designer. She thought to be a manager and work there until she saved enough money to open a boutique.

              Jansie discourage her from such dreams because she knew their reality and she knew that to open a boutique lot of money is required and they belong to a middle class family. She knew that huge dreams requires large investment, which their families cant afford.

3.       3. Why was Sophie fascinated by Danny Casey? Was it a one sided affair?

Ans- Sophie was fascinated by Danny Casey because he was young, smart and handsome. He was an famous Irish footballer and Sophie was fascinated looking at his popularity and looks.

              Yes, it was a one sided affair. She never met Danny Casey.

4.       4. Why didn’t Sophie want Jansie to know about her story with Danny?

Ans-  Sophie didn’t want Jansie to know about her meeting story with Danny Casey because she was afraid she would tell everyone in the neighbourhood about it. She also did not want the neighbour to gather outside her house.

5.       5. Describe the character of Sophie’s father and the role played by him in the story “ Going Places”.

Ans- Sophie’s father is a typical stereotypical man, who works hard for his family. He spends most of his time watching television after long day at work. He rarely spends time with his family or family task with his wife. He expects Sophie to buy a house if she someday earns good money. He can be depicted as a practical person who is self-cantered and short tempered. He has a plumpy face looking grimy and sweaty. Sophie fears his aggressive manliness. He loves watching football, and considers Tom Finney who was a footballer inn his time better than Danny Casey who is a young Irish Football at present time.
