ROADSIDE STAND

1.       WHICH THINGS IRRITATED THE PASSERBY WHO STOPPED AT THE ROADSIDE STAND?

ANS- In the poem Roadside Stand there are two perspective one the poor vendors who had set up the stalls on the roadside and other the passer by who feels the roadside stands are making the play dirty and also spoiling the beautiful scenery of that place. They also found fault with the North and South sign of the signboard hung outside.

2.       ‘OF ALL THE THOUSAND SELFISH CARS’ SOME STOP THERE BUT NOT FOR BUYING SOMETHING. WHY DO THEY STOP THERE AT ALL?

ANS- Here the thousand selfish cars are the city people, they are told as selfish because they don’t buy anything from the roadside stand. They just criticize the vendor for spoiling the beautiful scenery of the place. Sometimes they stop there to ask directions or to ask for gas or sometimes just to turn their cars.

3.       WHO WILL SOOTHE THE RURAL POOR OUT OF THEIR WITS AND HOW?

ANS- The greedy good doer and selfish powerful people will soothe the rural poor out of their wits by not giving them any facilities.

4.       ‘ NO, IN COUNTRY MONEY, THE COUNTRY SCALE OF GAIN,

THE REQUISITE LIFT OF SPRIT HAS NEVER BEEN FOUND,

OR SO THE VOICE OF THE COUNTRY SEEMS TO COMPLAIN,

I CAN’T HELP OWNING THE GREAT RELIEF IT WOULD BE,

A.      WHAT DOES THE VOICE OF THE COUNTRY PEOPLE SEEM TO SAY?

ANS- The voice of the country people seem to say about the complains of injustice and the requisite lift of spirit.

B.      WHAT WILL BE OF GREAT RELIEF FOR THE POET?

ANS- The great relief for the poet will be if he would relief the poor people at one stroke out of their pain.

5.       WHO ARE REFERRED TO AS THE FLOWER OF CITIES IN A ROADSIDE STAND?

ANS- The best things of the city are referred to as the flowers of cities. Among the best things, the best facilitates, the best companies, the best living conditions, the best educations, and other else are referred as the flower of cities.

6.       WHICH THINGS IRRITATED THE PASSERS BY WHO STOPPED AT THE ROAD SIDE STAND?

ANS- The passers-by who stopped at the roadside stand were irritated at the  paint which were not that good according to them and  that destroyed the beautiful landscape. Also, they were irritated at the signs of S and N which were turned wrong.

7.       WHY DO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE RUNNING THE ROADSIDE STAND ASK FOR SOME CITY MONEY?

ANS- The people who are running the roadside stand ask for some city money so that they will be able to buy some good things of the cities. with the city money, they will be able to bring some changes and lead a comfortable life like the life as promised by the party in power. 

8.       ‘THE LITTLE OLD HOUSE WAS OUT WITH A LITTLE NEW SHED

IN FRONT AT THE EDGE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE TRAFFIC SPED

………………………………….WITHERING FAINT.’

 

A.      WHERE WAS THE SHED PUT UP?

ANS- The shed was put up in front at the edge of the road where the traffic sped.

B.      WHAT WAS ITS PURPOSE?

ANS- Its purpose was to getting some extra money or cash

C.      WHY DOES THE POET USE THE WORD ‘ PATHETIC’

ANS- The poet uses the word pathetic to refer the roadside stands which would not be fair t say for a dole of bread.

D.      WHO ARE REFFERED TO AS ‘ THE FLOWER OF CITIES’?

ANS- The best things available in the cities is referred as the flower of cities.

9.       WHAT ARE BEING SOLD IN THE ROAD SIDE STAND?

ANS- In the roadside stand they sold wild berries and crook necked squash with silver warts.
